The Oldest and Newest Puppet Masters barfing leeches onto Blu-ray and DVD in July

It just seems so alien the original Puppet Master (1989) and the ninth and newest entry in the series, Axis of Evil, is arriving on Blu-ray (and DVD) from Full Moon Pictures on July 27th.

I can remember when the first five installments were as rare as hen’s teeth on DVD. After being released, the standalone disc of Puppet Master and seven film/eight disc box set suddenly went on moratorium. As their collector’s value dramatically increased, rumors flew that Paramount, who distributed the first five, requested Full Moon halt these DVD editions. Eventually, the box set reached prices north of, as Dan Hicks says in Evil Dead 2, hun’ard buck. Then perhaps conveniently, as demand reached a fever pitch, if I remember correctly Full Moon seemed to somehow find extra limited stock to sell on their website. So go figure, but hopefully those days are gone and these new releases spell the end of that run around.

Full Moon have yet to divulge exact details, but the cover indicates a digitally remastered 16×9 (anamorphic) widescreen transfer for Puppet Master. The VHS, Betamax (yes really, I own it), and prior DVD had a making-of featurette entitled “No Strings Attached: A Behind The Scenes Look At Puppet Master” and the DVD also had the film’s trailer. Hopefully these extras will make the crossover. Also available for pre-order now at Full Moon Direct is a signed by Charles Band, numbered limited edition (1,800 copies) DVD and Blu-ray Andre Toulon model trunk case at $49.99 and $69.99 respectively. Both trunk types will include both the 1989 and 2010 features, Axis of Evil poster, nine trading cards of poster art, and six stickers of the puppets. Hell, I’m getting excited just typing that.
