Predator to redux on Blu-ray in June

With the Nimród Antal-directed, Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators arriving theatrically on July 9th, it seems like a no-brainer 20th Century Fox would perform a Blu-ray double-dip on John McTiernan’s 1987 hybrid horror/sci-fi/macho bullshit classic. That and the studio’s current BD is a no-frills, bareboned affair encoded on the now-ancient MPEG-2 method used on DVD and most high def cable feeds–only with a much higher bitrate.

Fox’s new Ultimate Hunter Edition BD will include an all-new 1080p digitally restored transfer (most likely encoded in the studio’s preferred MPEG-4 AVC codec), sneak peek at Predators, Evolution of the Species: Hunters of Extreme Perfection featurette, and thankfully all the previous Predator-centric supplements of Fox’s 2-DVD Special Edition. Audio options include the lossless 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and 4.0 standard Dolby Digital tracks heard on the existing Blu-ray. Also as the ultimate indicator of a cash-in, receive $10 Movie Money towards Predators. Get ready to re-experience Jesse Ventura mowing down little brown men, Sonny Landham reenacting his personal reality on-screen, and the vaguely concealed homoerotism of beefy military dudes facing off against an intergalactic tree monkey with a laser pointer on June 29th for $29.99 MSRP.
